Kyoto City Trams ran through the town of Kyoto from the Meiji period to the Showa period and played an active role as a means of transportation for people.
Kyoto Municipal Subway, which celebrated its 40 year anniversary this year, was constructed after the closure of Kyoto City Trams.
There is an official document called "Documents Related to Kyoto City Trams" that records the history of Kyoto City Trams.
In March 2021, "Kyoto City Trams Related Materials" was designated as a tangible cultural property of Kyoto City.
There are 877 of them.
Kyoto City Library of Historical Documents displays old maps and nostalgic photographs from these materials.
During the period until November 7, various materials will be introduced in the first half and second half.
There are many interesting things such as various models, dioramas, one-day tickets, tram tickets, system boards, direction signs, etc.
At that time, designs of "Hana-Densha (Flower trains)," which are said to have been decorated for celebrations, were also released.
The official magazine "Sharin" of the Kyoto Municipal Transportation Bureau is for display from 1968 to 1988.
We can also see the pocket-sized copies in the museum.
Inside the museum, images of "Kyoto News" and "Memories of Kyoto City Trams" were played, and the time seems to be went back!
Not only the people who used to live on streetcars, but also the generations who don't know streetcars can enjoy it.
On August 4, Kyoto City Library of Historical Documents will be extended until 20 o'clock as the "Night museum"
It is free of charge, so it's nice that you can go there easily.
The Kyoto Railway Museum, Lake Biwa Canal Museum and Kyoto City Archaeological Museum are also holding joint exhibitions.
