One of Kyoto's three major festivals, the Aoi Festival (Kamo Matsuri) is an annual festival held by Kamigamo Shrine and Shimogamo Shrine, and is Kyoto's oldest festival.
This festival occurs on the 15th of May, but the "Zengi" ritual comes before that.
Wearing traditional noble costumes from the Heian period, you'll get to witness the impressive display of a "Kaburaya" (traditional Japanese arrow that signals the start of a war) archery on horseback.
It's meant to purify the roads used during the procession of the Aoi Festival.
