Kyoto's summer fun Gion Matsuri Festival ①The surprising relationship between Gion Matsuri Festival and cucumber

A typical summer vegetable cucumber.

It's a delicious summer vegetable either pickled or made into a salad, but in Kyoto there are times when you don't eat such cucumbers.

The festival is held from July 1 to 31 during the Gion Matsuri Festival, an annual festival held atYasaka-jinja Shrine.

The shrine parishioners of Yasaka Shrine have long been accustomed not to eat cucumbers similar to the crest of Yasaka Shrine.

There is a theory that praying for the success of Gion Festival which lasts for a month,and cutting off cucumbers which are the most delicious season.

The surprising relationship between cucumber and Gion Festival is interesting.
