The abundance of nature in Arashiyama makes it a popular cherry blossom viewing area.
Forget about crowded spots such as Togetsu Bridge and Tenryuji Temple.
Did you know that there is a hidden temple called "Senkoji" located at the foot of the mountain?
It is about 1 km from the southern side of Togetsukyo Bridge, along the bank of the Oi River.
Being a Zen style temple located further up the stone stairs, you can only reach it on foot.
The merchant and engineer Suminokura Ryoi once lived here, and the view of Arashiyama Gorge, Hieizan, Daimonjiyama etc.is unobstructed.
It is a great place to see Kyoto when cherry blossoms are blooming.
