Wandering around ④Temple and shrine etiquette that you should watch out for

It's no exaggeration to say that no Kyoto trip is complete without visiting a few temples and shrines.

So here's your guide to faux-pas-free trip. For shrines, go with the "bow twice, clap twice, bow once".

Bow twice towards the haiden and the honden, clap twice at chest level, and finish off with a bow at the end.

In the case of a temple, after putting money into the offering box, bring your hands together in a prayer and bow once at the end.

There's no need to clap here.

The "goshuin" (temple seal stamp) offered at each temple, which has become quite popular these days, is proof that you've visited each temple.

So please remember to get a stamp at the end of each visit!
