In the morning, I saw my grandma on her farm. And I asked her,"What are you gonna grow for this year?"She answered,"I haven't sowed seeds much yet for this year. It's been a bit funny weather, wasn't it? had sudden snow, and cold. follow me, show you around."This is onion seedlings. This is onion with a bud from the last winter.Working on the farm is secret of my grandma's health. Our grandma's farm is an organic farm. Thanks to grandma for the delicious beautiful vegetables. The flowers were blooming from the winter vegetables. This is a daikon radish flower. This is a Chinese cabbage flower. Looks interesting.I did not know vegetables have such cute flowers exist before moved to Keihoku.Feeling the four seasons from the farm is one of the best parts of Satoyama living.
Keihoku Open Garden 2019
The other day, I visited my neighbor Keiko-san' to check out her Open Garden. We have many garden lovers in Keihoku and they organize "Keihoku Open Garden 2019" every year and it's the 12th year this year.It will be held in the garden of 18 homes in Keihoku. She loves walking in the mountains, knows a lot of mountain trees and flowers. Keiko-san has 80 kinds of trees, and there are about 80 kinds of wildflowers in her garden. This is a noble orchid. This is a fritillaria bulb. The curled leaves are pretty. This is a Chinese mayapple. It is the first time to see the flower of Kuromoji. Kuromoji is a tree branch that is used as a toothpick to eat sweets for tea ceremony. It has a good aromatic smell. This is a rhododendron it used to be the town flower when Keihoku was the town (now it's part of Kyoto city). I hear that it is difficult to grow. This rhododendron is around 20 years. World folk dance workshop
Yesterday, I participated in the folk dance event "Dancing and Traveling Countries of the World!" at Auru Keihoku. This time I learned folk dances from Armenia, Albania, Romania and Hungary. Men, women, and children who gather at the workshop hold hands together and dance in a circle. By connecting your hands, you can create a sense of unity, different from Japanese Bon festival dance. First of all, I dance slowly while coping the teacher's steps, according to the great live music of flute, violin, guitar and drum by professional musicians. Gradually the tempo gets faster and desperate to keep up! But I am getting used to it gradually. Smiles are overflowing naturally, it is addictive! When it is over, everyone naturally praises each other with applause! It is a very good body exercise, and brain exercise! ! I had so much fun! The main organizer (flute player) Mr. Taro Kishimoto said, "There are many dances holding hands in a circle in the world, but there are not many dances in Japan like that kind of style, so I would like to spread it from Keihoku." next time is on July 6(Saturday) Don't miss it!Please check more info on facebook event page.

The cherry blossoms along the river in Shuzan are in full bloom.Trees are mainly Somei Yoshino specie. (Shot today April 12)The weeping cherry at suspension bridge is full bloom too.A friend from Singapore told me that"How Japan is smart!? Planting cherry blossoms all over Japan. It's so beautiful. It definitely attracts so many foreign tourists. We don't have this""Well, It's not planted for only foreign tourists, though..." I said.I think Japan's four seasons and cherry blossoms are very special For someone from tropics like a Singapore. There is not so much green in Singapore. It must be nice for them.By thinking so, I'm glad that I'm Japanese.I Gotta enjoy the four seasons and the spring!Let's have a hanami party in Keihoku! You don't wanna miss it!
Kuroda hundred year cherry tree
Many cherry trees start blossoming in Keihoku. There is a rare specie of cherry tree called "hundred years cherry tree" in Kuroda Keihoku. This cherry is planted in Kasuga Shrine and the tree is estimated to be 300 years old. The trunk is about 3 m thick and about 6 m high.It is a large cherry tree and the blossom has 10-12 petals, it is a mutant specie of mountain cherry tree.It is a very rare specie. There is an old wooden storehouse was built in the 14th century in Kasuga Shrine.I went to the shrine and see the cherry tree this morning.Bud of cherry was getting bigger, but I think it takes another 10 days to bloom. They have a local festival "Kuroda hundred year cherry festival" in this coming weekend 13th and 14th.It would be nice to look at cherry blossoms and have a relaxed time in Keihoku.-------- Kasuga shrine & hundred year cherry treeAddress: 90 Miyano, Miya-cho, Keihoku, Ukyo-ku, Kyoto-cityAccessKekihoku furusato bus : Bus stop "Miya" a minute walk from the bus stop.
Log cabin cafe 「KAMONOSE CABIN」
Go north on Route 162 and along the road in the mountains through the Keihoku, there is the log house cafe "KAMONOSE CABIN" since 1982. The wild vegetables set you can eat in there is really delicious. (1,500 yen)Each dish has a dish made with wild vegetables.Details below. (From the upper right) Kogomi Pumpkin Itadori Shoot of sansho mountain pepper Bracken Fuki miso (using white miso) Sansho mountain pepper and small fish Bamboo shoots, butterbur, sansho mountain pepper Kelp and sansho mountain pepper Pickled myoga (Japanese ginger)Each dish is carefully made, and all are excellent. The cafe's master goes to the nearby mountains to pick wild vegetables in the springtime. He just returned from the mountain when I visit there. There is also a tempura set of wild vegetables you can order. They have an old-fashioned curry as well. (800 yen)There are three sizes: small, middle and large. I asked for the middle size, it was quite large, but I could eat it easily.Of course, they have coffee. It is a super light coffee that can taste sweetness more and has almost no bitter taste. This coffee is recommended for those who are not good at drinking bitter coffee.(Master doesn't like bitter coffee so much.) Also, they sell chiffon cakes and cookies.Mr. Omae, the master of the cafe, is a very unique and very punchy person.I like the master tells his opinion straight to the customers. Most of the customers of the cafe are regulars from Kyoto city and Osaka. Mr. Omae told me, "Many customers do not come again or become regulars."Maybe you can imagine how he is.On the day when I visit there, a few regulars were in the cafe. And one of the customers was talking about her life problem and the master was giving her advice.By looking at their conversation, I thought there is like a parent-child bond between the master and the customer.(It could be stronger than a real family bond )It seems that regulars are coming to consult about life with the master that it is difficult to consult with their real parents. There is a gentle community between cafes and regulars, and the atmosphere was so pleasant, they are very welcoming and friendly to new faces (my family).KAMONOSE CABIN must be the third place for regulars. And I think this kind of cafe is being sought because nuclear families and individualism are increasing in modern society. The master says " There were a lot of cafes that were a similar atmosphere as ours in the 60s to the 80s. Regulars stay at cafes for a long time and having love consultation to life consultation. Cafes were that kind of space."Do you have your own third place? If not, then KAMONOSE CABIN could be your third place. Aside from that, why don't you come and try the mountain vegetable set meal?To taste the spring and looking cherry blossoms.*If you want to have the mountain vegetable set or mountain vegetable tempura set, better book before you go. Because it takes a bit while to serve.White and black cats are waiting for you too.-----------------Kamonose cabin601-0531 address: 6-1 Kamonose, Kamiyuge-cho, Keihoku, Ukyo-ku, Kyoto Business hours: 8:00 to 18:00 on weekdays 7:30 to 19:00 on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays Close: Thursday · Friday (open on holidays)Tel:075-854-0822 HP: http://kamonosecabin.net/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/kamonosecabin/ Please check the Have an old cherry tree in Satoyama all to yourself to get to know good cherry blossoms viewing spots and restaurant information in Keihoku.

I think cherry trees seem to bloom about a week later than usual. The top photo is azaleas in Takao.Takao is between Kyoto city and Keihoku, so you can see them on the way to Keihoku. Those azaleas bloom in the same time of year as Keihoku cherry blossoms.(I haven't gone down to Kyoto for a while. So I haven't checked them. )This photo was taken on April 3, 2019 in Shuzan Keihoku.Cherry is starting to bloom.Maybe from the next week is the best time for a week to see cherry blossom in Keihoku.
