Cheers to SATOYAMA CHISHIN!
It's been about a year and a half since I started to write a blog Satoyama Chishin on the Kyoto Chishin Web.And it's been 6 years since I started living in Keihoku.I have been getting used to living in Satoyama little by little. And as I'm getting used to it, I gradually become insensitive to its charm. It's like living in Satoyama becoming normal for me.However, the past year and a half have been really good for me because I have been able to recognize the charm of Keihoku life, culture, nature and many other things through by keeping daily blogs. I think, everything in the world is depending on how you see it, you can choose the way to see and once you change the way to see, it will change completely. There are many challenges in living in Satoyama, but it is fun to overcome them, and there are good things that are hard to get in urban areas but I could get them just by living in Keihoku. The following is a good point list of what I am getting from Keihoku living." Keioku common things by my perspective "・Rich relationships, lots of interesting friends.・I get vegetables and venison from neighbors.・There's farmland I can grow veggies.・There's something wild edible food around.・There's nice restaurants.・I have a large house with low rent.・There's free parking.・Close to Nature.・Life with firewood.・I have a garage where I can custom my bike.・kids are OK to make big sounds.・I can play the guitar in the middle of the night.・Can go to Kyoto in an hour.Yes, now I feel I'm very rich.Of course, city life has a lot of good points, but the countryside good points suit my lifestyle. If you find "my perspective of Keihoku life" attractive, you may be suitable for living in Keihoku. Why don't you focus on the things that are around you and remind yourself that you have a rich life? It makes you feel happy. At least that works for me. This is the last article of Satoyama Chishin blog.Thank you very much for your interest in this blog. I would like to make a toast to all and wish you all the best for the health and development of Kyoto Chishin and Keihoku and all of you.Cheers to Kyoto Chishin!( the cup I have is a replica of Jomon pottery that was going to throw away I and served it. It's looking cool! Isn't it?)We will be posting information about Keihoku on the KEIHOKU Style website, so we hope you'll check it out as well.-----------.KEIHOKU StyleKeihoku-style.com SATOYAMA DESIGNPhone: 075-748-1033Address: 21-3 Nishi Choda, Keihoku Shuzan-cho, Ukyo-ku, Kyoto CityWebsite: satoyama-d.comEmail :firstname.lastname@example.org

SDGs' badge made in Keihoku Kyoto
Don't you hear "SDGs" in the news for the past year or two?SDGs are "Sustainable Development Goals" and there are 17 goals and 169 targets. Simply put, let's aim for a sustainable society. As a side note, there was the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) formulated in 2001, which were development goals for developing countries. And at the United Nations Summit in 2015, the MDGs were upgraded to SDGs so now that not only developing countries but also all countries could work together to create a sustainable society. Don't you often see people wearing SDGs badges on their chests these days?To be honest, I think it's a bit trendy and a bit tacky. It's probably made in China and didn't care so much about the environment in the process. Are those the SDGs?" I wondered. One day as I was thinking about these thoughts of SDGs badges, a guest came to my office. That was Mr. Nakai from Nakai Electric Construction Company.Mr. Nakai "We decided to make SDGs badges at our company, and when I got to know about the SDGs and I was impressed by it. I want to many people know about it and I want to work together with many people on it. "He brought a flyer and showed me.Me "Ohh yes!? That's a good idea.Mr. Nakai: "I have been done a lot of things to revitalize Keihoku, but we realized that the best way to revitalize a community is to create a place to work. So I collaborated with the Genta Yasui Art Labo an artist working in Keihoku, and decided to make SDGs badges. By making badges, we're gonna make a new job opportunity in the community!Let me tell you why the SDGs badges' motif is glasses. Each person sees things differently. but by sharing common goals through the glasses, we can work together and make impossible to possible."Me "Oh, I see. sounds good."Mr. Nakai: "When I wore the SDGs badge, people would ask me questions about the SDGs, so I studied more about it so then I could explain them properly. It would be embarrassing if I couldn't explain it to people, as my company is making it. I found out it's great to wear it. Because by wearing it, you are expressing to others your commitment to the SDGs, so then you can change your behavior and you can start talking about SDGs through the badge easily. You can spread the SDGs' actions and make more connections.Me: "Yes, that's great! Please make one for me with my company name "Satoyama Design"!"So, I ordered one.I really sympathized with Mr. Nakai's passion, and the fact that Mr. Yasui(Yasui art Labo) made it by hand is also good. And a stylish design. You can put your company's logo on the right side. The material is brass and the price is 5,800 yen (excluding tax). Mr. Nakai specializes in electrical work, but he's also very good at welding plumbing, and in the last few years he's been making his own lighting fixtures using Keihoku wood, combining electricity and woodworking. This time, they are working on the badge. The idea of an electrician hiring an artist is a rare one, isn't it? It's interesting. In the context of the SDGs, the 17th goal is "Achieving the goals in partnership."From there, the region is revitalized. The photo is Mr. and Mrs. Nakai are along well.World peace begins with home peace. Great awareness "Education, Parenting and Family"
Last month, Book Cafe Keihoku was held at Syu's Bar, so I participated. The book cafe's theme is "Education, Parenting and Family in the Future".Based on the experiences of the participants and the cases introduced in the book, we exchanged various opinions on the theme. This is the first time I've participated. It was very interesting and I learned a lot from it. (Ms. Tokiwa the organizer of the book cafe.) Lately, I've been into Adlerian psychology, which thinks of everything in terms of teleology, and basically rejects etiology such as like trauma and so on.For example, let's say you have a child who has truant not want to go to school. If you think about it in an etiology way, the reason the kid became truant is because that he was traumatized by being bullied in a class at school. (There are many possible causes.)If you think about it in a teleology way, the truant child is choosing by himself not to go to school because the child is afraid to get being bullied again. ("I can't go because I'm afraid" → I choose not to go because I'm afraid.)In the theory of causes, we depend on others and events that we cannot help ourselves, such as others and past events.Teleology focuses on how we recognize and act on the events of the past.In other words, it is up to you to take things. In this way of thinking, I like the idea of Adlerian psychology because I have the discretion of my life in this way. This time, however, I had the opportunity to participate in the Book Cafe, which changed my way of thinking. I had to change.Trauma can be unconscious and its existence cannot be denied, and human psychology is quite complex, so it's not that simple. Especially in the parent-child relationship, I think there are many challenges because of the close relationship. There were a lot of interesting stories at this book bar, but I'd like to share with you a story that impressed me. The following story I want share especially the parent who both working. the storyThe two-income family had two boys, and older boy was a trouble maker. The older boy was almost expelled from school after an incident when he was in high school. So, the mother managed to avoid dropping out of school by a promise that she and her boy go to a psychological counselor regularly.(In the meantime, the younger boy was very easy and was a like a healer for his mother.)At each counseling session, the mother and child would go to separate counseling sessions, but each time they would talk about nothing.Counselor: "How are you feeling lately? Do you have a favorite food? It was just a matter of having a casual everyday conversation with him. They drove tow hours every month for a few months to go to that counseling session just chatting with the counselor. But somehow the child's problematic behavior was gone and he was able to graduate school.Since he was able to graduate, the mother and child went to see the counselor to thank for helping them.Mother: "Thank you very much for everything. Thanks to your help, my child was able to graduate. Can you tell me, how your counseling has worked my son in a positive way?"Counselor: "I haven't done anything in particular. You and your son spent the two hours in the car together, talking and spending two hours together a round trip to get here. That worked on your son.Spending time together... The child has become a respectable member of society. But This time, his younger brother, who was a healer for his mother, has become seriously ill.... The story end. That's was huge impact on me.Spending time together... Parenting time is very important.I'm not spending time with my children enough. I should!!(For the time being, I played the role of a customer in my daughter's shop play.) I thinkWhoever a child or an adult, if a person doesn't know how to express things, then I think the person will get some kind of output in an unintended way like a sick or problematic behavior.I think even when I look at my daughter's strange behavior or habits which I think not good but these are done unconsciously to try to get parent attention. In this Corna virus situation, many people doing teleworkingand I think this is a great opportunity for families to spend time together more.I should face my family with this mind!Book Cafe Keihoku was really great. I will definitely participate there again.Even if you don't live in Keihoku, you can participate in this event. The last Wednesday of each month is Book Bar Keihoku at Syu's bar.Check it out below for more information.---------.Please check a Facebook page for more information about Book Cafe Keihokuku.Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/BookCafeKEIHOKU/Cuisine Ryokan SushiYoneTel: 075-852-0032Address: 15-2 Shimogaichi, shuzan-cho, Keihoku, Ukyo-ku, Kyoto-shi, Kyoto 601-0251http://www.sushiyone.net/ Please read the other article about Sushiyone and Syu's Bar as well.
PIZZA at the Log House Cafe
Have you ever dreamed of living in a log house in the forest? There aren't many companies that make log houses in Japan, but there is one in Keioku. It's Kamonose log.(This photo was taken a few years ago when I was given a tour of the factory behind the cafe.)What we were shown at this time was a super huge log house.Log houses are nice and feel warm, aren't they? Each log is made by artisans hands.Kamonoselog offers not only log houses like the one shown in the photo, but also other styles such as country style and Japanese style log houses. My family went to Cafe Sava, which is run by Kamonoselog. The restaurant is also used as a model room for Kamonoselog, uses a lot of wood, making it a stylish and relaxing space. On weekends and holidays, the restaurant serves pizza by wood fired brick oven.(If you want a brick oven for your home or cafe, I'm sure they'll make it as an option when you build your house.)I ordered a margherita, anchovy sausage, and another (I forget the name). Pizzas are 1200 yen per piece. The tomato sauce has great acidity and the anchovies have the awesome flavor. All the pizzas were very good. ANd I ordered a beer. The beer set is 1,500 yen. The owner, Mr. Omae, is very friendly, so if you have any questions about the log house, please ask him. why don't you come here to eat pizza while driving to Keihoku? Take out is available. So it would be nice to buy take-out pizza and eat it while viewing the flowers on the riverbank in the coming season.CAFE SAVA is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and pizza is served on holidays and weekends! They bake pizzas even on weekdays if you order five or more pizzas with a two-day advance reservation. Protect the forest with little tricks
The other day, I participated in the "technical training to protect the forest road surface with little tricks" in the Kyoto-city forest in Keihoku, which was organized by the forest management group and Kyoto City.In recent years, torrential rains have caused mountain slopes landslides all over Japan. This time, before such a large-scale disaster occurs, we are trying to protect the mountain by using little tricks such as planting trees and using civil engineering techniques on the slightly collapsed slope to prevent disaster. The lecturer was Mr. Takada, a forest advisor for Kyoto City, and civil engineering companies stuff and a local lumberjack.・Little trick 1Appropriate planting speciesEach tree species have a suitable place, so we planted trees in suitable areas for each species.Documents I got on the event. It shows where to plant which species./Key points for planting trees・Plant three trees in one placeThis allows the tree to compete with other trees and grow faster than planting a single tree.In addition, two out of three trees can die, so it's a risk hedge as well.Planting three plants should be done with a good balance of lighting and other factors.Plant two trees on the south side, plant one in between, etc.・Observe the seedlings carefully before plantingIn some cases, the stem of the seedling is bent, so it is easier for them to grow if they get planted in a similar environment in which they were originally grown. Also, larger seedlings roots may be curled up in seedling pots, so you should untie them.・Harden the soilAfter planting, harden the soil well to prevent it from falling out. You can check by pulling them out if you can it's not hard enough.・Protect the seedlings from fungesWhen planting, make sure that the bacteria in the soil don't get to the roots of the seedlings. If the seedlings' roots are damaged, the seedlings will get sick.・Protect trees from the deerIn areas where there are deer, the tree sprouts are eaten by the deer and die, so I put a net over them. When you put up the net, you should fix the net underneath so then deer cannot get in under the net.・Trees like slopes Garden trees, for example, are planted on a flat surface, but I've heard that trees basically grow stronger when planted on a slope. Because of drainage, and it's natural, etc.Little trick 2Use of expired fire hosesExpired fire hoses are usually just disposed of, but they are still strong enough. It's a great way to reuse them.Little trick 3uses mesh and stakes to prevent further erosion where water flows on the slope.little trick 4Use eco planter. It's made of woodchips that will get decomposed after a while. It looks nice as well. The tree planting is very deep and interesting.I hope that these little tricks will be used in the forests in your area to protect the mountains. And actually.Satoyama Design(our company) and Perspective(company) and local forester are making "Forest of Crafts" project in Kyoto city forest.(Perspective is co-chaired by Ms. Matsuyama, who teaches Japanese traditional crafts(Kogei) to people in Japan and abroad through educational programs, and Mr. Tsutsumi of Tsutsumi Asakichi Lacquer studio, who tries new ways to use lacquer while preserving tradition.)Japanese traditional craftsmanship symbolizes the sustainable relationship between people and nature and between people and their lives. In order to reconnect these relationships, the Forest of Craft proposes a harmonious and sustainable society by creating a platform that connects people with nature and people with people through forest creation and making new items. The first step in the forest is to plant lacquer trees and paulownia trees. (In Perspective, we held a workshop on making lacquered paulownia surfboards in Keihoku last year.)In addition, we are preparing for workshops and other events so that many people can feel closer to the forest. We are planning to hold workshops such as tree planting, charcoal making, wild grass enzyme juice making, woodfired bath, bushcraft, camping, off-grid related thing, eco-DIY, etc. on a regular basis after April, so we would like you to join us.The delightful mates of the Forest of Craft (from left to right, Tonoshita-san, Matsuyama-san and Tsutsumi-san).Sounds like fun, doesn't it?The ladder will be a bridge between you and the forest. LOL.We are looking for individuals who are interested in planting trees and companies who are willing to sponsor the project.Contact Us---------.Perspective, Inc.firstname.lastname@example.org(Matsuyama)orSatoyama Design075-748-103321-3 Nishi Choda, Shuzan-cho, Keihoku, Ukyo-ku, Kyotofukumoto@satoyama-d.comHP: www.satoyama-d.com

Dreaming a great yield of potato part2
I brought a wooden box I made(check the previous blog) to my farm to plant potatoes.I cultivated a little bit of my farm where was abandoned since dear invade last year. This farm used to be a rice field so the soil is clayey.I put some dry cedar leaves to make it better drain.Farm vegetables don't like clayey soil, so it's good to add river sand and organic matters to change the soil suite for growing vegetables.Organic matter will get decomposed and become good soil. I bought 4 kinds of seed potatoes at a DIY shop.Cut bigger potatoes before planting.Put ash on the surface of the potato to protect potato from the virus. You don't have to cut potatoes though, they will grow with no cutting. But by cutting them you can get more seed potatoes.Actually you don't have to buy seed potatoes, you can just plant shooted potatoes from the kitchen. Many kinds of potatoes can grow that way.My assistant helped me plant. The assistant looks happy by finding a beetle larva. My image of the potato planter tower can get a great harvest. (I hope)I found out that I didn't need a wooden box yet.I might use this box to make a small greenhouse that might help grow potatoes quicker.Growing own vegetable is fun, I can try many things. My farm is like an experimental field. And I think farming is good for child education, playing on the farm and growing vegetables rather than staying at home watching youtube videos. My children see me struggling to grow vegetables that might make them think "Growing vegetables is not super easy, we should eat vegetables with no waste.". That my food education.Let's grow vegetables and the family together!
