In autumn, various things are dyed in various colors.Red, yellow, orange, persimmon color, scarlet, golden-yellow,...Just a short walk around the neighborhood will bring me the vibrant colors of the season. It was as if the little creatures were singing their last chorus for the coming silent winter. If I look at my feet and saw a bright red drop. This is gummy fruit. It is sour, slightly astringent, and slightly sweet. These are edible fruits. One of the common trees in Keihoku. Some of them grow in parks in the city, so I think some people have eaten them when they were children.I got fruit from the ground. When I ate it, it was very astringent! It was a little too early to eat.Autumn is likely to continue for a while.

Colorful autumn foot print
Autumn is the fashion season. I saw people are enjoying the autumn colors in their fashion like Chestnut brown and deep red stole or chocolate brown boots in the city.fashion season also came to the Satoyama. Today, I'll introduce what I found on the ground. In this season we can find many kinds of fall leaves. These are persimmon's leaves. Same persimmon's leaves but it has different colors and beauty.Cherry blossom shows us beautiful flowers in the spring and its leaf has a beautiful Autumn color. I also found red maple leaf. While taking photos of leaves, it reminds me of the pressed leaf that I used to make it between the heavy dictionary when I was an elementary school student. Maybe I'm gonna make one for me with a child's mind.
Find a yellow heart shaped leaf to get a treasure!
Have you ever seen this yellow heart-shaped leaf?It is green in summer, but it turns yellow like the picture in autumn.Actually, this leaf is a wild yam's leaf. And if you look closely, you will find a lot of "mukago". (Mukago is baby yam.)As I walked around the house, I was able to discover some of them.Of course, I harvest them.I found them on the ground sometimes. Because they fall by wind easily. I succeeded in harvesting this much around the house.Even if you eat them freshly just after picked, it's quite delicious, but I steamed them with rice.Just put yams in the rice cooker, and press the start button. It's super easy! They are cooked just right and delicious.I grated the larger baby yams in the same way as the yam we eat in Japan.please take a look! This stickiness!Ohh baby, you are like a real yam.The texture was the same as the adult yam, the stickiness was great, and it was super delicious. If you find a yellow heart-shaped leaf, check it out. There will surely be a baby yam. They may be growing even in the city, so please look for it.
Roast ginkgo nuts!
It's getting colder and colder in the morning and the night.I have started using a woodstove for the last few days.My family has the custom to cook something on the woodstove. It's fun to have a fire in the living room.I brought ginkgo nuts picked by local high school students the other day.So we roasted them on the stove."Hey chef! Do we need the fry pan?""ohh Maybe not."We put the ginkgo nuts on the stove directly.Let me check if it's ready or not.I broke the shell and got a two‐tone nut. After peel the skin, looking like this.Tasted fantastic. And it was fun.But we should not eat too much. It's toxic.Max 5 nuts for children. Why don't you try and taste Autumn!?It is addictive. maybe by the toxic??
A private Autumn leaves spot
Let me share a private Autumn leaves spot "Hiyoshi shrine".(November 16th photo taken)Maples and ginkgo are beautiful. My family got natural high by looking at them.No one is around. So you can do a photo session. If you go up to the road approaching a shrine towards the mountain. You will find the shrine. The shrine is peace and quite.I like this kind of sacred atmosphere that makes me purified. The word from the photo "wish world peace".I wish so too. Come and enjoy private Autumn leaves in Keihoku. Mid-November is good timing.Access is not good, I recommend come there by car.----------Hiyoshi shrineAddress: Kitanotani, Nishi-cho, Keihoku, Ukyo-ku, Kyoto-cityPostal code: 601-0276
Chayote kinpira cooking
Do you know chayote? It was introduced to Japan in 1917, and it's native to tropical America.Chayote is highly productive and can harvest 100-200 from one stock.I had never seen or ate chayote until I moved to Keihoku. My friend gave me some chayote, it's chayote season now.I cooked "Kinpira" using them. Let me show you how to cook kinpira.1. wash and peel the skin of chayote.2. cut them and take seed off.3. Cut them like this.(It's a bit slimy, so be careful when you cut.)4. Stair fly them by medium heat using sesame oil5. Add 2 tbsp of sugar, 1/2 tablespoon of mirin(sweet sake) 6. Add 4 tbsp soy souse and cook until the liquid is almost all gone.7.Add sesame seeds and stir.Ta-dah!!Please have a try!
Unique guest to my house
The other morning, I found something was moving on the roof of our house. What's that!?Wow, it's monkey!!!He was hanging around the roof of my house and a persimmon tree. And he was making a mess in my backyard by eating persimmons. My grandmother said "HEY!!!" to him. Then the monkey got upset and threaten us.So grandmother run away to the house.（Wild monkeys are dangerous, Please keep away from them.）My neighbor told me,Monkeys can recognize a face, so they keep away men but they would come to women and children.I understand they need foods to survive before winter coming but I don't want them to hang around my house...I think it's getting harder to find a good distance year by year between humans and animals.
